What was the cost of your trip?
I don't know what the cost of the trip was because my company paid for it. I took about five hundred of personal spending money which was plenty for what we did.
How long did it take to get there? (The flight over, plus the time to get to the place you enjoyed so much.)
Well, we left on our company plane from Detroit, MI and flew to Florida which took a couple of hours I think. Then the trip to the Bahamas was an hour more or less. The taxi ride to Paradise Island was about half an hour through traffic. It is hard to remember because it was twenty years ago.
Describe this place. What details made is such a unique experience?
The hotel where we stayed made it amazing. We stayed at the Paradise Island Harbour Club and Marina. I had booked all the rooms for the company for a sales contest and the hotel was VERY nice to me. I had fresh flowers and the nicest room I think. The view out the back sliding doors on the patio level was of the marina where the big beautiful sailboats were docked. When we chartered the boat for the day, we saw a big pirate ship just like in the movies, so kewl. We went snorkeling which was amazing beacsue the fish and coral are all so beautiful.
How have pictures or videos from it helped you remember it? Do you keep a picture on your desk or in your bedroom?
I do have pictures. I took many when we all went out as a group to dinners and listened to the local Caribbean music. We chartered a boat for a day and I got pics of that. We took a kind of ferry to a private beach and went swimming. There was a huge cruise ship off to the end about half a mile away. That was a sight to see since I have never seen a ship like that.
Will you go back there again, or is the memory too perfect to risk tarnishing it by a second visit with unrealistic expectations?
I would definitely go back. It is a beautiful island. I didn't care for parts of the Bahamas as the poorer sections of the island leave you feeling a little vulnerable. Kinda like visiting New York City and wandering into the wrong neighborhood.
How have you told people about it, and how have you encouraged people to go there themselves?
Yes I have told many people and encouraged them to go there. There are great casinos and stuff for my more adventurous friends.
Who were you with when you had this experience, and did they share in seeing it as an unforgettable moment?
I was with 10 people from my company and their spouses and my husband. Each week 5 different couples went on the trip after the contest.
What will you do in the future to try to top this experience?
Oh many places can at least equal this experience. It is all what you make of it. There are beautiful places right here in Venango County.
