Costa Rica Vacations Interview

By Interviewer at 12/18/08 10:30

Name of your website?

Costa Rica Vacations

Your name?

Victor Krumm

Your Location (city, etc)

Trejos Montealegre

Please give us a short summary of your website?

Costa Rica Vacations is a tourist guide for people who want information before their travel to Costa Rica. The site is eclectic; i.e. it doesn't promote a particular kind of vacation and includes a section on studying abroad in Costa Rica, taking a volunteer vacation here, etc

What inspired you to launch your own website?

I live in C.R., developed an interest in things to do and places to go here, and figured other folks might like to know what I have been learning.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

This is the first website I've created. Construction began in July 2008

How did you decide on a name for your website?

Its overall theme is about vacationing in C.R.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

The site is pretty diverse (eclectic). It started out simply as a vacation site but has been evolving into a more encompassing website. As new ideas are formed, new pages are created and I'm working on linking internally between subjects that might appear to stand alone so that the reader can reasonably easily get more info. I have also tried to make the site readable in foreign languages (there's now a Google Interpreter button on every page) and searchable, either via the NavBar or a SiteSearch button (at the bottom of every page) that searches within the site itself.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

I'm going to monetize it at some point. There are a handful of ads, mostly so I can see what they're like and if I want to use these kind of things.

I want this to be a site fun to read but with solid information.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

I have invested a lot of time in this project. Typically a webpage takes 12-16 hours to do the research, writing, and editing. And, as new ideas bring about new pages, I spend considerable time linking or cross-linking.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

I'd deepen the research

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

This is NOT going to be a realistic possibility

What has been your biggest challenge?

Time. It takes time to do things the way I want and to give it my voice. My guess is that what I liked in the beginning will change as my project develops.

I look at a lot of websites. Different kinds of websites. I'm trying to build a high quality site in terms of content, look and feel, and entertainment.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Time, writing more pages

What is your website address?
