RentAccomSpain.com Interview

Spain property rentals RentAccomSpain.com Interview
Name of your website?

RentAccomSpain.com

Your name?

Mark Buckingham

Your Location (city, etc)

Northampton

When did you start your website and why?

Our website was started in April of 2007 in response to a number of our friends who own holiday homes in Spain and who were looking for an effective way to advertise their properties for rent but didn't want to pay the £100 plus for the privilege, as charged by some of the existing sites of this genre.

Please give us a short summary of your website, business model, etc

Rentaccomspain.com is a web portal whereby individuals or business owners can advertise their properties and services for a small annual fee and benefit from our extensive advertising campaigns without having to bear the costs involved as individuals.

What has been the most difficult part of creating and running your website?

We must say that the most difficult parts of creating the wesite are financing the startup costs and then getting that 'all important' search engine ranking.

What has been the easist part of operating your website?

The easiest part of operating the site (but the most time consuming) has to be the simple job of uploading the property adverts to the database.

What was your biggest mistake?

This has to be choosing to advertise in (some of) the expensive off line media which proved not to return the investment.

Who maintains your website and why?

The rentaccomspain.com website is maintained by myself as at the moment it does not need the expense of additional technical staff.

Tell us how your business has benefitted from your website?

As the website is the basis of our business, it is the one thing which drives us each day to provide the service our customers expect.

What are your views on ecommerce and the future of the internet?

I believe that ecommerce is the future of purchasing and that we will all be 'shopping' from our armchairs in the non too distant future. If one looks at the recent increase in chip & pin card readers for instance we can simply play the estimation game of 'when will cash die out?'.

What are your views on Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

SEO?? - I think this is a black art in which Harry Potter would be an apprentice. Does anyone really understand it or do we all know someone who thinks they do?

What are your views on Search Engines? Have they helped or hindered your website?

Search engines, as good and useful as they are, seem to be a bit if a hit and miss affair. I mean, why would one search engine find your site more popular than another one - unless each one has an underlying algorythm which serves a different purpose to the others.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Manual backlinks and correct, targetted, offline marketing serves more of a purpose than just spamming everyone or using a scattergun approach to advertising. That just annoys people and has the opposite effect of what you're trying to achieve.

What method has been least successful for promoting your website?

See above.

What would you like to see change with respect to the internet?

I would like to think we could have a more regulated approach to the internet as a whole and a system which effectively eliminates the need to have antivirus software installed on all our computers. The trust this would instill in people would mean that the internet would be part of more peoples lives than it now is and we would have no need to worry for our children's safety.
