Birding and Diving Fiji Interview

By Interviewer at 02/11/09 14:28

Name of your website?

Birding and Diving Fiji

Your name?

Michael Packer

Your Location (city, etc)

Suva

Please give us a short summary of your website?

A popular way to eco-tour Fiji these days is to bird the islands and dive the coral reefs. The Koro Sea and Kadavu are great designations from Suva. One will see countless butterflyfish, soft corals, Fiji's endemic parrot's and Goshawk soring over mountain pristine rain forest. Check out Michael Packer's site for a first hand photo journal. The site mentions a couple of great places to stay and visit.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

For eco-tourists, the friendly islanders you meet off main South Pacific islands should not be missed. On Fiji's Kadavu island for example, one will find it is eco-friendly and a good value as well. The rain forest life is outstanding and the diving around the Great Astrolabe Reef is among the best in the world.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

Birding and Diving Fiji was launched January 2009.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

Birding and Diving eco-tourism is becoming more popular on islands like Fiji and Papua New Guinea and other South Pacific Islands.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

It gives a fist hand experience of Fiji eco-travel with both birding and diving in mind.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

The goal is to write a birding and diving travel blog and book.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

Not well - but it is worth every FJD!

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

Quit my day job, start the web page and lead some eco-tourists into the south pacific bush.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Not a problem.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

None so far.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Quitting my day job.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Word of mouth.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

Just launched, I plan to update it often over the course of years.

Have you done birding and diving in other parts of the world?

Check out my webpage on birding and diving Papua New Guinea: "http://packerlighting.com/PNG_Web/"

What is your website address?
