travel with expensive jewelry ?

By tiffany jewelry at 04/25/08 02:56

It is extremely difficult to travel with expensive jewelry. There is not only the problem of the airline carry -on bag restrictions, but also the issue of what to do with the jewelry when the traveler gets to her destination.

Many hotel safes have disclaimers; leaving jewelry in rental cars can be a dubious proposition, and many times it's just not practical to wear the jewelry 24/7. The first question a traveler must ask herself, "Is the hassle of taking jewelry worth it– do I really need to take any tiffany jewelry?".

Obviously, if the occasion is a wedding, special event party or a class reunion the answer will more than likely be a yes!

Opting out of being a practical traveler and just leaving the gems at home, what is the savvy jewelry-toting traveler to do? This article will not be discussing the fanny pack – that practical-yet-hideous solution to these types of problems. And placing jewelry in checked baggage is just not something that should be done. Here are some stylish carry-on suggestions to house your jewelry while in flight. After you land, you are on your own.

* Jane Bolinger's Baby Bag: This bag has plenty of pockets in which to organize your jewelry and its small size makes it easy to place it inside one of the two mandated carry-on bags allowed today for airline travel. It comes in seven different colors and will be a versatile addition to your handbag collection as it can double as the trip's daytime handbag.

* Franchi clutch handbag: Available at Nordstrom stores nationwide, this clutch is made in blush-colored satin dotted with rhinestones. Another double-duty handbag, this clutch is a good choice for storing your jewelry while in flight. Then, co-ordinate the clutch with your outfit to carry while attending the special event.

* Isaac Mizrahi for Target: $19 is well spent on this white lace clutch that is only available at Target's online web presence. Part of the designer's special occasion line, this white-on-white cotton and lace clutch is very suitable for storing tiffany jewellery on the go. Like the Franchi and Bolinger bag, tiffany necklaces it is also small enough to easily fit inside a carry on.

* Finally, for those with five grand to drop on their traveling jewelry box, Tomas Maier's design for Bottega Veneta is a recommended pick. This piece of luggage is crafted exclusively for the storage of jewlery on the go. The jewelry box is roughly 12" x 8" x 5", so it will qualify as a carry-on piece. It is also quite the popular travel item for those who own their own jets. To take a look, check out Bottega Veneta's website.

The next article in this series will discuss protecting the jewelry prior to packing it in a carry on bag.
