Berber Tours Interview

By Interviewer at 02/11/09 13:33

Name of your website?

Berber Tours

Your name?

Jeffrey Teachou

Your Location (city, etc)

Zagora

Please give us a short summary of your website?

We pride ourselves in ensuring your journey to Morocco will be one you will treasure for a lifetime. We offer private guided tours to singles, couples, families and small groups crafted and managed with the highest level of care and professionalism. From enticing cultural tours to exhilarating outdoor adventures, our excursions have earned a reputation of excellence with travelers from around the world.

Blending the bold, tribal influences of the indigenous Berber people with the pan-Mediterranean influences of the Andalusian period, our cultural tours of Morocco will open up a world of exotic traditions in design, architecture, crafts, cuisine and music. On our private excursions, you will stay at respectable 3-star or 4-star hotels, or enjoy the charm of private riads, the magic of ancient kasbahs and dreamy nights under the stars of the Sahara. Our private 4x4 tours and camel treks offer couples and families of all ages and interests the romantic and exotic destination of a lifetime.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

We keep the size of our tours small and we only offer individualized, PRIVATE tours as opposed to the standard, run of the mill type tour. If you book a tour with Berber Tours, you are guaranteed that you will NOT be participating with a bunch of strangers, but only with the people you want on your own tour.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

The first website was launched in August of 2001 and was just a simple one page website.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

One of the owners of Berber Tours is a "Berber Nomad" and that is how the name came about.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

The design of the website and what we offer, which is private and individualized tours.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

To keep it for income.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

We have had great success with our website. The internet is a great way of getting our "name" out there for the public to see.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

I would offer a sample of music and video.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Definitely, we are a growing company and have a large network of people and other providers to support our tours.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

None, so far.

What has been your biggest challenge?

There are two: 1) Getting the public to understand that we are NOT a travel agency and that we only deal with "transportation" that we offer and, 2) Getting clients to understand that Morocco is an "easy" country to get around in, even if it is small; that a tour takes time and that we are not the kind of company that offers the ablility to see "25 cities in 3 day."

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Sites like this one.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

Sometimes it is more involved that we thought it would be.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

The site has been running for 8 years and will continue.

What is the "average" time we would need to see Morocco?

To be able to see a good "mixture" of what Morocco has to offer, we suggest that you allow between 8-10 days of actual travel time in Morocco. We offer several tours of this length that include cities, villages, the Sahara and other places of interest....all at reasonable prices.

What is your website address?
