Please give us a short summary of your website?
My website is a store front for my travel business. From luxurious hotels, first-rate airlines and romantic resorts, to relaxing cruises, thrilling ski slopes, fine dining and more, you’ll get the best vacation deals available in the industry.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
I wanted a website that would not look like everyone else's in the travel business. I wanted it to be professional and user friendly. I also wanted it to answer as many questions as I could on the website so that customers would not be discouraged and leave the site after not finding what they were looking for. At the same time I wanted to give them the option of contacting me personally if they did have any questions.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
My first website was a subprofile for AIM when I was in high school- or maybe it was middle school. I can't really be sure. It was basically a site where I posted journals and such for my friends to read. After that I used geocities.
I also have another website for my business provided by my parent company. The url is www.seetheworldtravellive.com, but it is not as user friendly, nor is it only about travel, so I try stick to promoting http://seetheworld-travellive.web.officelive.com/home.aspx
How did you decide on a name for your website?
It's the name of my business. It's a travel business with global appeal.
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
I tried to make all the information easy to find and in obvious places, especially for things that people might not think to look for like the income opportunity.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
My goal is to make money from selling the travel packages.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
The website has only been up and running for about a month so I can't say just yet.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I would add features like a better members area and get my personal domain name for it so that it would be easier to find and also I could personalize the template a little more.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
That's a good question. Since there hasn't been much activity, I can't really say since I don't have much to compare it too. I'd like to think that I have the ability to keep up, though.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Advertising. It is the end all be all of owning a business.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Yet again, I must answer advertising. I did not have much of a budget going into the business so it's been tough getting the word out.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
So far, safelisting has given me the most visitors above all the methods I've used.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
I'm using a hosting site right now by Microsoft Office Live, so it's been pretty easy; the only problem is that I can't change the layout to my exact specifications.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
Like I said earlier, it's only been up and running for about a month. I will continue to stick it out as long as I have to in order to make it happen. Progress often occurs slowly with anything in life.
