Queensland Armchair Guide. Interview

By Interviewer at 01/19/09 08:06

Name of your website?

Queensland Armchair Guide.

Your name?

Liz

Your Location (city, etc)

The Whitsundays.

Please give us a short summary of your website?

The site started out as a journey from The Gold Coast in The South of The State to Cooktown in The Tropical North but has expanded considerably since then. http://www.queenslandarmchairguide.com

What inspired you to launch your own website?

I guess it was a matter of boredom with television.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

3 years ago. It was called Alf and Liz in Oz.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

I chose it to describe the nature of the site.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

A lot of the travel sites do not provide specifics,so I decided that I would provide links to companies that have websites to help the customer in choice of cruises, restaurants and attractions in the holiday destination of their choice, and include history and other info relative to the same.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

Hopefully it will provide some income when it becomes more well known.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

The investment of time is something one outlays when doing something one enjoys and the cost is negligable.Success is when your competitors want to offer enormous sums of money to buy you out.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

I would need to invest in promoting the site to fast track its position and employ a web developer to design some form of unique interactivity on the site as my expertise is not suffice to go forward.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

With unlimited development budget yes.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

Nothing unexpected. With the Video Whitsundays page I am tearing my hair out with having to convert Mov. to Mpeg Avi or Wmv and losing quality for some unknown reason. http://www.queenslandarmchairguide.com/videowhitsundays.html

What has been your biggest challenge?

At the very beginning it was teaching myself HTML from the About.com Website.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

I think my SEO skills are improving greatly. These are of prime importance.Google friendly Robots help if you speak their language.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

I thought I would produce a website and update occasionally but I have found that I am driven to produce more and continue to improve.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

About 16 months and will continue because my site will continue to gain in traffic.

Replace this with a question of your own

Anyone like to make some suggestions for improving the site?

What is your website address?

Queensland Armchair Guide.
