Please give us a short summary of your website?
Our travel company offers culinary tours of Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos. Our website is the single most useful way to see what tours we offer.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
The inspiration for Global Taste Tours came from a few dreams. The first was to return to Asia, to start a food based company. I knew I wanted to share my passion for Asian cuisine, but I didn't want to start a restaurant. Food based tours are a great way for me to share my passions for Thai food in a professional manner.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
I launched www.globaltastetours.com quite recently. For several months I was campaigning for Barack Obama, after the victory I spent the next few months building the site.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
Global Taste Tours came about because we are interested in all food types, not just Thai. We hope our company can share our passion for amazing food with people everywhere in the world. Also, we think great food has a universal appeal.
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
Great question. We are different from other companies in many ways. First off, we allow our clients to fully customize every aspect of their vacation. From the destinations, to the activities, to the hotel type, you can determine exactly what you want your vacation to look like. Also our prices, you'll be shocked what our prices are compared to our competitors - about half!
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
Our ultimate goal is to expand Global Taste from servicing destinations in Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos to a half dozen additional destinations. Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, and many other countries are fantastic destinations for foodies. Several years down the line we'd like to branch out to International Culinary Schools.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
well, we are just getting started now. Get back to me in a year!
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
Advertising, advertising, advertising!!!
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Let's go with a short answer here: absolutely!
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Timing is everything. Getting registered as a tour company in Thailand has taken tons of time and cost tons of money.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Thus far we are still so new, SEO is our biggest challenge. When people find us, they have been fairly responsive to our site.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
I went into this with as few expectations as possible, so easy, none.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
I went into this with as few expectations as possible, so easy, none.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
If I didn't enjoy it I'd be out already!
