When did you start your website and why?

We started our website a few months ago after the big success of the website of our sister company. We are getting many requests through our website now and would like to increase this number by more promotion, better price deals en even better service.

Please give us a short summary of your website, business model, etc

We are a family business in Tanzania. Because we are a family business, we are very suited to answer specific questions our costumers have be it large tents for safaris, special water on safari, etc.

What has been the most difficult part of creating and running your website?

We found it is very difficult to get a good ranking in the search engines. Since we are well known in Dar-Es-Salaam - together with our sister company - but not well known abroad, a good ranking on searches with more general search terms is very important for us.

What has been the easist part of operating your website?

We found is very easy to put in the content and pictures. Content is very easy as we very well know what kind of business we operate. Pictures are also very easy because we have many happy clients that mail their holiday pictures once they get home.

What was your biggest mistake?

A few times it happened we couldn't offer all the service we wanted to offer, and that should not happen!

Who maintains your website and why?

Our website is maintained by a European friend of us. We asked him because he knows very well what he is doing and he could host te website on european servers which makes the website faster than when we would use domestic servers

Operating on internet at international level gives cultural and trust problems. It needs years before you establish a trust relation towards the hotels and customers.

mobility. you don't need to be settled in a city to work for it.

underestimating traditional advertisement.

ecommerce could be sometimes very misleading; populaity doesn't means you will get what you hoped. To difficult to say anything about the future of internet.

SEO, as an online business you have to do it. Although you have to be carefull what you are doing or who you are paying.

Discount Hotel Reservation website with www.deskbell.com domain name was created and went online in 2004. Since then the task of this website has been to provide connection to different hotel reservation distribution systems and eventually to provide the cheapest hotel rates available.

It is mainly a hotel directory that can be browsed geographically and lists all the hotels for each available destination, this is the first distinguishing feature as this is not always possible with other reservation systems, i.e. with other reservation systems you are often forced to use the search form and have no access to the hotel list. The hotels featured are fed from different sources, the different Global Distribution Systems and other international booking systems, this is why sometimes one hotel is listed more than once while visitors are allowed to check rates available for each listing. In addition to this a search form for each destination will help visitors with more sophisticated functions serching for hotel availability and sorting out esults by rates, rating, distance from places, etc.

What are your views on ecommerce and the future of online hotel reservations?

Generally ecommerce has developped a lot in the last few years but we can see much more happening in the near future. Online hotel reservations proved one of the most successful area for the ecommerce, actually a pioneers field. We are looking forward to see more companies integrating ecommerce in their business model and to move more quickly from "Brochure" type websites to interactive ecommerce. Hotels have already been doing this and it is now necessary for hotels to work with distribution systems and with their own interactive website for hotel reservations.
